M.V. Nordic Sun

The 1981-built, 19,954-dwt, 13,379-grt, oil and chemical tanker Nordic Sun - Monrovia, Liberia is seen in this photograph transiting upbound in the Welland Canal during the morning hours of April 12th, 1988. At the time this picture was taken the tanker was sliding along the north approach wall below lock 2 about to enter the lock in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada.

She was built in Shimonoseki, Japan at the Hayashikane Shipbuilding & Engineering drydock for the Sun Company Ltd. (SUNOCO) and she entered service as Nordic Sun. Since her construction she has sailed as Nordic Sun (1989), Nordic (1994) and when this picture was added to the archives she was still listed as operational under the name Nordic Blossom (1999).

December 2006 - She's still running as the Nordic Blossom.  While discharging cargo from the Maritrans Diligence, at the Hess dock in Baltimore, MD, I noticed her up stream at a consolidated oil terminal.
